Film Board urges stakeholders to renew licences before deadline

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Film Board has urged stakeholders in the country’s film industry to renew and update their operating licences before the March 31st deadline.

In a statement issued this week, the board called on actors, producers, directors, scriptwriters and videographers to register through the AMIS system to avoid disruption to their work.

“The board urges all stakeholders in the film sector to ensure they renew and update their licences before 31 March 2026,” the statement said, adding that compliance would help prevent unnecessary inconvenience in their professional activities.

The directive applies to a wide range of participants in Tanzania’s film and creative industry, including video content producers, film studio owners, cinema operators, theatre and drama groups, as well as owners of video libraries and informal screening venues commonly known as ‘vibanda umiza’.

Film distributors and agents involved in film-related business have also been reminded to ensure they are properly registered and licensed within the specified timeframe.

The board said registration through the AMIS system would help ensure industry’s players operate legally and without interruption.

It also warned against broadcasting or distributing audiovisual content without official approval.

“It is strictly prohibited to broadcast or distribute films, dramas, programmes or any audiovisual advertisements without obtaining verification and production permits from the board,” the statement added.
