Ferdinand tour earmarked to boost promotion of  Tanzanian tourist attractions

DAR ES SALAAM: THE former Manchester United captain and England international, Rio Ferdinand, said football can serve as a powerful tool for strengthening communication, fostering social connections and driving socio-economic development when properly utilised.

The football legend noted that sport also plays a significant role in promoting tourism and preserving cultural heritage across the world.

Speaking while travelling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma aboard Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train today, May 20, 2026, Ferdinand said he will continue discussions with Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, and stakeholders in the tourism sector to help boost promotion and growth of the industry.

According to the football legend, football has the capacity to unite people from different backgrounds while opening opportunities for investment, cultural exchange and international exposure for countries that strategically utilise sports diplomacy.

Ferdinand’s visit is expected to further strengthen efforts aimed at promoting Tanzania’s tourism attractions through sports and international partnerships.
