Facing infertility challenges? Don’t panic, Muhimbili has acquired IVF hi-tech
TANZANIA, Dar es Salaam MUHIMBILI National Hospital (MNH) is set to offer In vitro fertilisation (IVF) services to women undergoing various pregnancy challenges after acquiring an assisted reproductive technology worth 1bn/-.
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam on Friday, MNH executive director, Prof Mohammed Janabi said that the service is expected to begin before the end of the year adding that a construction project of the building where the service is going to be offered has been accomplished.
“The machines have been imported and clearance procedures are at the final stage. The first step is to install the plants and since they are huge, it may take a little bit of time, but certainly before the end of the year, probably around October and December we should be done,” Prof Janabi said.
Elaborating, the executive director said that for starters, they will begin with regular clinics for screening and after that specialists will proceed with the transplant.
“I think we are all aware of the problem of people not getting pregnant, it is a big problem and in Tanzania I can’t say the exact number, but many have been travelling abroad to get this service. We, as a hospital, thought it best to invest in the areas,” he said.
Additionally, Prof Janabi said that MNH is well prepared to offer the service in the country since experts have already been dispatched for training in the United States and India.
He said Muhimbili will offer the service in collaboration with fellows as he adds: “We have already employed an embryologist who will be with us.”
