THE Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has termed as ‘success’ the application of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system in its operations to monitor and manage revenues.
The authority informed that it started using the system for the first time in the previous fiscal year.
The ERP software is critical to help implementation of resource planning by integrating all the processes needed to run its activities with a single system.
It can also integrate planning, purchasing inventory, sales, marketing, finance, human resources, and more.
This was stated by TPA’s Acting director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Anibeth Joshua, during a strategic meeting between the TPA and media recently in Bagamoyo, Coast region.
She stated: ” ERP is an application which automates business processes and provides insights and internal controls, drawing on a central database that collects inputs from all departments under TPA.”
The system has been installed in the departments of accounting, Human Capital Management (HCM), Quality Management (QM), Funds Management (FM), Materials Management (MM) and Payroll (PY)”.
“Go and tell them that now ERP is at full swing at the Tanzania Ports Authority, all activities are monitored in single system,” she assured.
The ERP, which is the world’s latest management and financial controlling software, was installed at the TPA in 2015 but it was not operating due to technical issues.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan had once ordered to immediate using the system considering its benefits.
President’s directive was supported by different Parliamentary Committees that toured the TPA, in particular the Dar es Salaam Port.
“Even parliamentary committees insisted the utilization of the system to make the TPA efficient in controlling all financial matters electronically to secure revenues,” she stated.
