Elect good leaders to bring development- Biteko calls

DAR ES SALAAM: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, on Monday urged Tanzanians to elect good leaders during the Local Government Elections scheduled to be held this year.

Dr Biteko stressed that voters should pick leaders with the capacity to resolve challenges and also be at the forefront in bringing development.

He further urged the residents to prepare for the elections to be held later this year, saying it is important to vote only leaders who are conscious of development, adding: “Leadership is the ability of a person to unite people and guide them to development.”

He said the constituency underscores the significance of having visionary leaders who solve citizens’ problems by, among others, ensuring effective implementation of development projects in their respective areas.

Likewise, he hinted that President Samia is scheduled to visit Geita Region to familiarise with their progress on the ground.

While addressing a public rally at Lyambamgongo Centre in Bukombe District, Geita Region, yesterday, he added: “When time comes let’s be ready to register in the Permanent Voters Register (PVR) and elect good leaders, who have qualification to be elected and bring development.”

He further said that the government looks forward to seeing the Bukombe constituency having people with vision or good ideas that would help in addressing community challenges.

Dr Biteko, who is also Bukombe Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), commended the government for accelerating socio-economic development in the area.

In a related development, he extended his gratitude to the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for constantly financing various projects in transport and health sectors’ countrywide, adding that this raises the citizens’ living standards.

“More good things are underway. President Samia has said she wants to see Bukombe becoming new in development and I can assure you of the changes. Currently, if we recall back, we can prove that Lyambamgongo Ward has experienced great transformations as a result of the government’s execution of tremendous projects,” Dr Biteko said.

Elaborating, the government under the ruing CCM’s Election Manifesto 2020/2025 is obliged to strengthen access to quality health, education, water, electricity, housing services in rural and urban areas.

In specific, he cited the road stretching from Lyambamgongo to Ifunde, Ishoro and Nyamakungu villages as having been constructed in the constituency and helping the residents.

His list also included a dispensary built within a stable electricity supply.

On his part, Lyambamgongo Ward Councillor, Mr Bonifasi Shitobelo said prior to improvement of the health services in Bukombe, the residents used to access medical care several kilometres away from their homes-a situation which forced them to spend a lot of money in commuting.

He appreciated Dr Biteko who is their MP for facilitating construction of the dispensaries and roads which are critical in uplifting the citizens’ livelihoods.

Geita Region’s Chairperson of the ruling CCM party, Mr Nicholaus Kasendamila thanked Dr Biteko for continuing to represent Bukombe residents’ problems to the government and addressing them on time.

Accompanying Dr Biteko, the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office, Planning and Investment, Mr Stanslaus Nyongo said a good Member of Parliament is the one who elevates his constituency by sparking development like the minister.
