Dumisha Amani project equips youth with skills, promotes group entrepreneurship

LINDI: THE District Commissioner for Lindi, Victoria Mwanziva, has urged 60 students set to benefit from vocational training under the ‘Dumisha Amani’ Project, funded by UNPDF, UNDP Tanzania, and CPP, to form skills-based groups to make it easier for the government to provide them with loans.

Mwanziva made the call on July 4, 2026, during the official opening ceremony of the training programme at the Lindi Regional Vocational Training and Service Centre.

“We have youth groups and development groups. You are welcome to approach the council, where we have municipal loans as well as the 10 percent loan allocation for youth, women, older persons, and people with disabilities. These loans are accessible through groups. Since you will already have the necessary skills, and if you present a viable business plan, you will be able to benefit from these loans directly,” she said.

Mwanziva commended VETA, UNPDF, CPP, and UNDP Tanzania for enabling young people to acquire practical vocational skills, life skills, and entrepreneurship training that will help them secure employment or become self-employed and improve their economic well-being.

Speaking at the event, VETA Headquarters Senior Curriculum Development Officer Alphoncina Mshana described the opportunity as unique and valuable. She urged the trainees to make the most of it by attending all sessions, maintaining discipline, following instructors’ guidance, and cooperating throughout the training period.

Meanwhile, UNDP Tanzania Dumisha Amani Project Officer Josphine Sepeku said the organization would continue supporting Tanzanian youth by providing training that equips them with practical skills and knowledge for self-reliance, thereby contributing to the promotion and preservation of peace.

The Principal of the training centre, Harry Mmari, said the participants would receive hands-on training in Electrical Installation, Food Production and Hotel Services, Fashion Design and Garment Technology, and Plumbing. He noted that the skills they acquire will serve as valuable capital for their future and provide a strong foundation for improving their own lives, supporting their families, and contributing to national development.
