Dr Samia meets Putin in talks to broaden  Tanzania-Russia ties, global issues of mutual interest

MOSCOW: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is today,  June 3, 2026,  expected to hold official talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow as part of her three-day working visit to Russia.

The two leaders are set to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Tanzania and Russia, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

They are also expected to review preparations for the Third Russia-Africa Summit.

Several agreements are anticipated to be reached during the visit, covering key sectors such as higher education, science, information and communication technology (ICT), and investment.

As part of her itinerary, President Samia is also expected to receive an honorary doctorate from the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in recognition of her leadership, reforms in the education sector and efforts to advance international diplomacy, including through tourism promotion.

President Samia becomes the only second Tanzanian Head of State to make an official visit to Russia, following the late founding President Julius Nyerere, who visited the country in 1969.
