Dr Samia invites Russian investors to tap into Tanzania’s vast mineral wealth

ST PETERSBURG: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has invited Russian investors to tap into Tanzania’s vast mineral wealth, highlighting the country’s abundant reserves of strategic minerals that are increasingly vital for global technology and clean energy transitions.

Speaking at the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2026) in Russia on Friday, President Samia said Tanzania is endowed with significant deposits of uranium, nickel, graphite, helium and rare earth minerals, positioning the country as a key player in the global minerals market.

She said the government’s focus is no longer limited to exporting raw materials but is centred on promoting value addition through industrial development to maximise economic benefits for Tanzanians.

“We aim to move from being exporters of raw materials to producers of finished products. We welcome partners to invest with us in industries that will unlock the true value of our mineral resources,” she said.

SPIEF 2026 has brought together more than 24,000 participants from over 140 countries, including heads of state, investors and executives from leading international companies, making it one of the world’s largest platforms for economic and investment dialogue.
