Dr Gwajima to tell the globe how Tanzania provides justice to its women, girls

NEW YORK: THE Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, is scheduled to deliver Tanzania’s official statement the United Nations’ 70th session that prioritizes the Status of Women worldwide.

The UN member states began the meeting yesterday, March 9, 2026, in New York, United States, to discuss the status of women in their countries.

The meeting marks the 70th session on the Status of Women worldwide, guided by the theme: “Ensuring and Strengthening Access to Justice for All Women and Girls, including by Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Legal Systems, Eliminating Discriminatory Laws, Policies, and Practices, and Addressing Structural Barriers.”

The session was officially opened by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, on March 9, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on March 19, 2026.

The main agenda of the meeting is to discuss women’s access to justice and essential services, including land rights, education, access to legal information and services, participation in leadership and politics, equality in all aspects of life, and access to quality health services.

On the first day of the meeting, Tanzania was represented by Felister Mdemu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups.

The delegation also included experts from the ministry, other sectoral ministries, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
