DAR ES SALAAM: THE opening round of the 2026 Tanzania Rugby Saba National 7’s Circuit concluded at the Kilimani Club grounds in Uzunguni, Dodoma, recently showcasing the growing competitiveness and popularity of rugby across Tanzania.

The Tanzania Rugby Union (TRU) Secretary, Anthony Dawa, told the ‘Daily News’ that clubs from different regions delivered thrilling performances throughout the tournament in an atmosphere filled with excitement, entertainment, and strong sporting spirit.

Iringa Wild Dogs RFC emerged as champions after an outstanding unbeaten campaign that culminated in a commanding 24-0 victory over Kilimanjaro RFC in the final.

The Iringa-based side impressed fans with disciplined defence and attacking efficiency throughout the competition, cementing their status as early favourites in the national circuit.

Kilimanjaro RFC secured second place after several strong performances earlier in the tournament, while Dar Cubs RFC finished third following a competitive campaign that included notable victories over Dodoma Dragons and Kilimanjaro RFC.

According to Dawa, Ukonga Warriors RFC claimed fourth position, while hosts Dodoma Dragons RFC completed the standings after showing determination and resilience against more experienced opposition in the field of five teams.

Before reaching the final, Iringa Wild Dogs RFC produced a series of dominant performances, including a 19–0 victory over Ukonga Warriors RFC, a commanding 31–0 win against Dar Cubs RFC, and an emphatic 29–0 triumph over Dodoma Dragons RFC.

Dawa noted that the tournament also benefited from the presence of international match officials from Kenya, highlighting continued efforts to strengthen rugby cooperation within East Africa and improve officiating standards in Tanzania.

Tanzania Rugby Union expressed gratitude to participating clubs, referees, tournament officials, medical teams, media partners, sponsors, supporters, and the wider rugby community for contributing to the success of the inaugural Dodoma Rugby Saba tournament.

TRU Secretary further announced that official tournament photographs and a preliminary list of players selected for national team monitoring and talent identification programmes will be released through the union’s official platforms in the coming days.

Dawa stressed that following the successful launch in Dodoma, the Tanzania Rugby Saba Circuit now shifts focus to Dar Rugby Saba, scheduled for August, before concluding with the Arusha Rugby Saba Grand Finale in December 2026.
