Dodoma RC orders timely project implementation

KONDOA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has stressed the need for timely implementation of development projects in Kondoa District and Kondoa Town so that residents can start benefiting from the intended services.

Ms Senyamule made the call during a visit to the two areas, where she inspected development projects, addressed residents’ concerns, urging communities to take precautions against expected heavy rains.

During the visit, she inspected the 5.7bn/- Itaswi Dam, the 540m/- construction of Potea Secondary School and laid the foundation stone for Serya Primary School, which is being constructed at a cost of 302m/-.

Ms Senyamule said the government was continuing to invest in health, education and community empowerment, while stressing the need for projects to be implemented on time so that residents could benefit from the services.

At Itaswi, she also highlighted other government investments, including the 98m/- Haire Dispensary, 100m/- Chubi Primary School and 24.5m/- in 10 per cent loans issued to three groups.

On the expected rains, Ms Senyamule urged residents to follow forecasts and advice from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), particularly those living in low land and other high-risk areas.

“It is better to relocate early before the rains begin if you live in a valley because it is a waterway. We must take great precautions,” she said.

She also urged parents and guardians to protect children during the rainy season by preventing them from crossing flooded or fast-flowing areas.

“Raging floodwaters should never be tested,” she said, urging residents who need to relocate to do so early and move to safe areas designated by the government.

However, Ms Senyamule encouraged farmers not to abandon agricultural activities because of the expected rains, saying the rainfall could provide an opportunity to increase food production if farmers followed experts’ advice on safe areas and appropriate timing.

Kondoa District Commissioner, Ms Fatma Nyangasa said authorities intensified public awareness campaigns across wards, villages and streets to prepare residents for the expected rains.

District Executive Director, Mr Shabani Milao said the council has also allocated funds to improve market infrastructure, including toilets and water facilities.
