Dodoma RC orders daily cleanliness checks
DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has directed local leaders to enforce daily sanitation inspections including on Saturdays, and officially abolished the practice of delaying morning business operations for mandatory weekend cleaning routines.
Ms Senyamule issued the instructions during a meeting with Ward Executive Officers, Street Executive Officers and Street Chairpersons in Mtumba, the region’s official government city, over the weekend.
She said cleanliness should be the responsibility of every citizen and become part of daily life rather than being confined to a particular day of the week.
“I have abolished the practice of conducting cleaning activities every Saturday. People should open their businesses early in the morning,” she said.
The RC directed Ward and Street Executive Officers, working with health officers, to conduct routine inspections every day, including Saturdays, and take action against those who violate sanitation laws and regulations.
On preparations for possible heavy El Niño rains, Ms Senyamule said the region has strengthened mitigation measures at all levels and urged residents to stop directing wastewater into unauthorised areas during rains to prevent health risks and disease outbreaks.

Dodoma District Commissioner Jabir Shekimweri noted that ongoing flood mitigation efforts include upgrading drainage infrastructure, widening roads and constructing rainwater harvesting dams, with priority given to floodprone zones like Nzuguni and local mining areas.
He said flood-prone areas, including Nzuguni and mining zones, have been given priority. Presenting the region’s one-year Disaster Response Plan, Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary for Planning and Coordination, Mr Charles Mduma said the document identifies vulnerable areas and outlines measures to be taken before, during and after disasters.
Mr Mduma urged Street Chairpersons to establish the exact number of people living in high-risk areas to help the government prepare appropriate budgets and disasterresponse strategies.
