AFTER being declared as the best regulatory body at the just concluded 47th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) has reminded the public of responsible gaming.
The GBT’s Director General Mr James Mbalwe appreciated the general public for voting the Board as the best regulator at the event, saying the move depicts that Tanzanians are now aware of responsible gaming though more efforts should be deployed to raise awareness about the fast-growing sector in the country.
Apart from clinching the best regulator award presented by Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Mwinyi, GBT also emerged the second runner in a category of the best pavilion at the DITF where a total of 3,500 exhibitors from Tanzania and abroad showcased their products and services.
“GBT is proud of this victory which has given us a lesson. Tanzanians understands well the roles of GBT in regulating the sector. Likewise, they appreciate the contribution of Gaming industry in the country’s development. So, we ought to continue to raise awareness to the gamblers and the general public over gaming issues as well as responsible gaming,” the DG said in a statement issued by GBT.
“I would like to insist that gaming isn’t employment. It’s just entertainment like others. I would like to advise the public, specifically youths, that gaming isn’t an alternative to employment or source of revenue,” he offered a piece of advice.
GBT was among public institutions which participated in 47th edition of DITF in Dar es Salaam which kicked off on June 28, this year. The event was officially closed by President Mwinyi.
At the event, GBT invited gaming operators in the country to showcase their services and provide awareness to the visitors at the pavilion.
