TABORA: IN celebrating Braille Week in Tabora Region over the weekend, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has advocated for digital accessibility and inclusivity for visually impaired individuals.
The event culminated in a grand ceremony at CCM Grounds in Tabora, where Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labor, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, Mr Patrobas Katambi, emphasised the need to prioritise visually impaired individuals in government offices. During the event, sponsoring institutions shared key messages.
TCRA officials, including Engineer Nicola Mgala and Jasmine Kiyungi, raised awareness on digital communication, cybersecurity and mobile fraud prevention.
Attendees were advised on online safety practices, such as avoiding unfamiliar links, using strong passwords, and verifying the legitimacy of online services.

TCRA officials highlighted that mobile service provider inquiries should be made via the official number (100), warning against fraudulent calls from unverified sources.
Participants were also encouraged to check for unauthorised SIM card registrations by dialing *106# and to report fraudulent numbers through 15040.
TCRA’s commitment to inclusivity was reinforced by its distribution of Braille books to enhance accessibility for visually impaired individuals.
National Youth Coordinator Abdul Majid Mkopi praised TCRA for recognising the importance of providing educational materials in Braille, ensuring visually impaired individuals receive crucial communication guidelines.
Ms Joyce Charles, Coordinator for the Tanzania Association of the Blind (TAB) in Lake Zone, commended TCRA for its efforts, noting that many organisations fail to provide information in accessible formats, causing delays for visually impaired individuals.
TCRA’s Director General reaffirmed the authority’s support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of equal opportunities for persons with disabilities, pledging continued efforts to enhance digital inclusivity and economic empowerment.
