Dendego: Singida ready for May Day celebrations
SINGIDA: WITH just a few days remaining until the International Workers’ Day celebrations, Singida Regional Commissioner Ms Halima Dendego has revealed that preparations for the major event are 80 per cent complete.
In a media briefing, Ms Dendego confirmed that all key arrangements for the national-level celebrations, set to take place in Singida this year, are progressing smoothly.
She assured that everything will be fully ready ahead of the big day.
“We are well-prepared to turn the arrival of more than 6,000 guests into an economic opportunity for our region. We’re also excited to welcome our guest of honour, President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan,” said Dendego.
Local entrepreneurs in Singida are already seeing benefits from the influx of visitors.
Mr Hamis Jumanne, a well-known poultry seller in the town’s main market, said that he has found enough local customers to sell all his chickens, which he had originally planned to transport to Dar es Salaam.

“This time, I’ve hit the jackpot. Instead of transporting these chickens to Dar, I’ve got buyers right here. That means no transport costs,” Hamis said, expressing his gratitude for the May Day event coming to Singida.
Lodge and guest houses owners including Ms Neema Nestory and Mr Habibu Khatibu also expressed their gratitude to the government for choosing Singida to host the event, noting that it has provided them with rare business opportunities.
Sunflower oil entrepreneurs Kidoho Kidimanda and Ilolo Ilanda said that their business has seen a significant boost due to the high number of visitors already in Singida for the May Day celebrations.
This year’s theme for International Workers’ Day is: “Let the 2025 General Election bring leaders who value workers’ rights and welfare. Let us all participate.”
