Davids credits pressing, tactical approach

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA Head Coach Fadlu Davids has commended his team for their dominant game in 3-0 victory over Namungo, crediting their effective pressing and ability to stretch Namungo’s defence as the key factors in their success at Majaliwa Stadium on Wednesday.

Shortly after the match, Davids highlighted that their tactical approach enabled them to create several goal-scoring opportunities, which ultimately led to the goals that secured the victory.

“Our approach wasn’t just about dominating possession but about being decisive in key areas. By stretching Namungo’s defence and making runs into the box, our forwards continuously pressured their opponents. This strategy led to defensive mistakes, including causing penalties that Simba successfully converted to extend their lead,” he said.

The victory keeps Simba in second place with 50 points while Namungo are in 13th place with 21 points. He added that he was pleased with the win, acknowledging that it was a tough match against a strong Namungo side.

He also noted that the team’s focus has now shifted to the upcoming games, emphasising their goal to maintain their perfect form.

“I am really proud of the team’s performance; this was not an easy place to come and get a result, but we stayed disciplined and took our chances. Now, we shift our focus to the next game, making sure we maintain this momentum as we continue our fight to be at the top of the table,” he said.

Namungo Coach, Juma Mgunda stated that everything was going well until their player received a red card, which ultimately changed the course of the match.

“Everything was going well until we received the red card. We had to adjust our approach and against a strong team like Simba, it became very difficult. Playing with 10 men for such a long period is always a challenge.

“We did our best to stay in the game, but they capitalised on the situation. It is tough to compete under those circumstances, but I must give credit to my players for their efforts,” he said.
