Dar showcases market-led food security approach at Gulfood

DUBAI: TANZANIA is leveraging Gulfood 2026 in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates to showcase its commitment to building robust, coordinated and transparent agricultural commodity market systems.

Speaking during a highlevel discussion at the Gulfood World Economy Summit in Dubai, the Director General of the Cereals and Mixed Crops Regulatory Authority (COPRA), Ms Irene Mlola, said current global food challenges require a shift in how countries develop market systems and manage food security.

โ€œFood security in todayโ€™s world can no longer be viewed solely through the lens of production.

โ€œIt is built through strong market systems, modern infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that foster trust among farmers, traders and international buyers,โ€ said Ms Mlola.

The countryโ€™s participation at Gulfood is being coordinated by COPRA in collaboration with government institutions and private sector stakeholders.

At the Tanzania Pavilion, the country is showcasing progress in formal agricultural markets through certified warehouses, warehouse receipt systems, digital trading platforms, and agro-processing and transport infrastructure.

Through the Gulfood 2026 platform, the country continues to position itself as a reliable partner with a business- and investment-friendly environment in the food sector by integrating strong production capacity, effective regulatory systems, modern infrastructure and a long-term vision for agricultural and trade development policies.

The Gulfood World Economy Summit 2026 is being held under the theme โ€œAgile by Design: Nexus Between Food Security and Infrastructure for a Connected World.โ€
