During their meeting, Dr Yonazi explained the strategic importance of Tanzania’s participation in the forum.

“This platform provides immense value and benefits for our country, especially in enhancing disaster risk governance and preparedness. Our presence here is a testament to our commitment to global disaster resilience efforts.” Dr Yonazi explained that the forum focuses on reviewing progress, sharing experiences and reinforcing international cooperation under the voluntary agreements adopted by UN member states for disaster risk reduction.

He also commended the Embassy for its continued diplomatic engagement and emphasised the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with Switzerland, particularly in exploring technological and commercial opportunities that align with Tanzania’s development goals.

“Tanzania has every reason to maintain consistent involvement in such international platforms. They not only enable us to exchange knowledge but also to access and leverage opportunities that contribute to national development,” he said.

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is convened by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and serves as the primary international forum to monitor and accelerate progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
