Dar hosts ICC Africa Conference

DAR ES SALAAM: ALL is well as more than 19 delegates from across the continent have arrived in Tanzania to attend the two-day International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa Conference.

The Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) is the proud and historic host of this high-level continental meeting that kicked off yesterday in Dar es Salaam and concludes today.

TCA Chairman, Balakrishnan Sreekumar hailed the occasion as one of the association’s most significant achievements, following their recent success in securing the hosting rights from the ICC.

“This is a huge moment for Tanzania’s cricket community. We must ensure this event becomes a memorable experience for our guests,” said Sreekumar.

The conference has drawn representatives from all 19 ICC associate members in Africa, with an unprecedented five-member delegation from the ICC.

“Delegates began arriving on Monday, and the official proceedings commenced with a meeting with ICC representatives later that day, followed by a full-day conference yesterday and continuing through to noon on April 26,” Sreekumar explained.

Meanwhile, Sreekumar extended an open invitation to cricket legends and stakeholders to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony scheduled for tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) ground.

This ceremony will mark the launch of a major infrastructure development initiative, including the construction of two new cricket grounds and the refurbishment of the existing facility.

“This event will be a landmark in the history of Tanzanian cricket, representing a new era of growth and ambition for the sport in our country,” Sreekumar stated.

“We need to showcase our strength to the cricketing world, and I urge our legends to attend in great numbers. Your presence and blessings mean a lot.”

He emphasised that this initiative signals the beginning of a new chapter for Tanzanian cricket and called on the entire cricket fraternity to support the journey ahead.

To close the conference on a high note, Sreekumar also welcomed all legends and stakeholders to a gala dinner and entertainment evening on Saturday at 7:30 pm at the Whitesands Hotel.

“Legends are warmly invited to this get-together, where you’ll have the opportunity to engage with presidents and officials from other African cricket associations, including South Africa and Zimbabwe, as well as the ICC team,” he added.
