Dar City extend unbeaten run in BDL as JKT edge Ukonga

DAR ES SALAAM: DEFENDING champions Dar City maintained unbeaten run in the 2026 Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) with a commanding 114-45 victory over Chui in Friday’s men’s action at Don Bosco Upanga.

Organised by the Basketball Dar es Salaam Association (BD), the victory marked Dar City’s sixth consecutive win of the season, taking their tally to 12 points.

However, they remain behind league leaders Stein Warriors, who top the standings with 15 points from eight matches.

Dar City dominated from the opening whistle, taking a 20-12 first-quarter lead before overwhelming Chui with a remarkable 43-4, 25-18 and 26-11 in the remaining quarters.

Felix Luhamba and Cheikh Bamba led Dar City’s scoring with 17 points each, while Adolf Antony scored nine points and Rogers Ntale added eight for Chui.

In another men’s fixture, JKT staged an impressive second-half comeback to edge Ukonga 73-68.

Ukonga looked set for victory after winning the opening two quarters 18-12 and 25-18. However, JKT turned the game around after halftime by taking the third quarter 23-15 before sealing the win with a 20-10 final-quarter display.

Omary Sadiki and Elius Paul scored 14 points apiece for JKT, while Said Shabani added 13. Ukonga’s Fredrick Magwe finished with a game-high 23 points, while Romuald Kossgey contributed 16.

Speaking after JKT’s comeback victory, Head Coach Christian Jaco praised his players for adapting tactics after a difficult first half against a wellorganised Ukonga side.

“The first two quarters were difficult because we were still trying to understand our opponents’ style of play. Once we identified their strengths, we closed the spaces that allowed them to create scoring opportunities. That tactical adjustment made the difference and helped us come back to win the game,” Jaco said.

In the women’s competition, Vijana Queens recorded an impressive 76-57 victory over Pazi Queens after controlling the match from start to finish.
