CRDB Marathon raises 112m/- for Burundi flood victims

TANZANIA: CRDB Bank’s second international marathon, held in Bujumbura, Burundi, was a resounding success, drawing over 1,500 participants and raising 112,404,396/- for flood victims.

The event, themed “Smiles across Borders,” brought together runners from Burundi and neighbouring countries to support those affected by the devastating floods that struck the Lake Tanganyika area earlier this year.

Honoured by the presence of Burundi’s Minister for East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Gervais Abayeho and other government officials, the marathon highlighted the power of cross-border collaboration.

Minister Abayeho praised CRDB Bank for its initiative, aligning with Burundi’s 2040-2060 Vision of a peaceful, prosperous and equitable nation.

CRDB Bank Burundi Board Chairman Hosea Kashimba emphasised the bank’s commitment to improving the lives of Burundians through such initiatives.

For his part, CRDB Bank Burundi Board Chairman Hosea Kashimba explained that the marathon is part of the bank’s strategy to support government efforts to enhance well-being in Burundi.

He added that since CRDB Bank began its operations in Burundi 12 years ago, it has focused on improving the economic and social welfare of the people.

“We have successfully improved the lives of millions of Burundians and we continue to accomplish our mission through these races,” said Kashimba.
