Councillors urged to address citizens’ challenges

DODOMA: COUNCILLORS in the Dodoma City Council have been urged to focus on addressing citizens’ challenges by promoting and advocating for development projects implemented during the four years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.

The call was made by the chairperson of Council and Dodoma City Mayor, Prof Davis Mwamfupe, during a council sat to discuss the implementation report for the second quarter, covering October to December 2024.

“As we approach the end of our term, we must dedicate ourselves to solving our people’s problems before it is too late,” said Prof Mwamfupe.

Speaking on the upcoming 2025 General Election, which will include the election of the President, Members of Parliament and Councillors, he emphasised the need to ensure sustainability of achievements that have been so far attained under the Sixth Phase Government.

“This is an election year, and we must work to ensure a smooth transition. Voters will assess our performance over the past five years, so it is our duty to inform them about the achievements made under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership.

If we fail to communicate what has been done, we will be doing an injustice,” he stressed.

He also urged councillors to oversee and complete unfinished projects in their respective wards to ensure they begin serving the intended purpose and addressing community needs.

“We must be diligent in managing these projects to ensure completion. We previously instructed all councillors to identify stalled projects so that we can resolve the challenges hindering their progress,” he added.

Meanwhile, Makole Ward Councillor Omari Haji highlighted significant achievements in his ward, noting that most of his campaign promises had been fulfilled.

There has been substantial progress in Makole Ward. The Makole Health Centre has provided services to many people and construction of an integrated building is ongoing.

A large percentage of the promises I made have been delivered,” said Mr Haji. Similarly, Ihumwa Ward Councillor Edward Magawa expressed gratitude to President Samia and other leaders for effectively implementing the ruling party’s manifesto in his ward.

“I appreciate the President and all leaders for their commitment to fulfilling the manifesto. In Ihumwa, we have successfully constructed three new primary schools, a health centre, and a dispensary. As we near the end of our term, we aim to ensure these facilities fully benefit our people,” said Mr Magawa.
