Comoros players commend Taifa Stars’ AFCON performance   

MORONI: THE Ambassador of Tanzania to Comoros, Saidi Yakubu, has today, January 15, 2026,  received the former Comoros national team players who paid a courtesy visit to the Tanzania Embassy to congratulate the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, on its achievements in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.

The former players, Hamdani Raffiou and Adinane Ismael, who represented the Comoros national team at different times, expressed their satisfaction with the high level of football currently displayed by Taifa Stars, as well as Tanzania’s historic achievement of qualifying for the Round of 16 for the first time since the country began participating in AFCON competitions.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hamdani Raffiou said Tanzanian football has made significant progress in recent years and commended the efforts that have led to these achievements.

“We have seen that the quality of Tanzanian football has greatly improved, and we congratulate them on the remarkable success they have achieved in African football,” Raffiou said.

Additionally, the former players, who currently play for Ntsaoueni Veterans—the champions of the veterans’ football tournament in Comoros—expressed their intention to visit Tanzania in March 2026 for friendly sporting activities aimed at strengthening sports cooperation between the two countries.

On his part, Ambassador Saidi Yakubu thanked them for the congratulations and noted that Taifa Stars’ success is the result of significant government investment in sports talent development, improvement of sports infrastructure, strong leadership in the sports sector, and the unwavering support and passion of football fans for their national team.
