COAST Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Abubakari Kunenge has issued a one month notice to individuals who have invaded a farm that belongs to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in Pangani Ward of Kibaha Town Council to vacate the area.
RC Kunenge made the announcement on Thursday, during his meeting with the residents of Lumumba, Mkombozi and Kidimu areas which form Pangani Ward and gave the government stand over the matter.
He said that the farm, which is famous known as ‘Mitamba’ measures 4,000 hectares before the residents started invading it and build structures without following legal procedures.
Expounding, he said that the farm was established between 1982 and 1983 under the Ministry of Livestock with the aim of using it for providing trainings for production of best cattle breeds.
“There were about 1,557 individuals who were formerly occupying the area and when the farm was established they were compensated a total of 20m/- so that they can vacate the area,” he said.
He further said that, after paying the compensation to the residents, some people invaded the area whereby some individuals started building and doing different projects in the area which was already legally occupied by the Ministry.
After the acts of invasion, Kibaha District and the Coast regional leaders decided to contact the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, looking for a possibility of releasing part of the land that was owned by the Ministry and give it to the council.
On March 7, 2012, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, through its Permanent Secretary wrote a letter to give its consent to release an area of 2, 963 hectares and to Kibaha Town Council to be used for settlement and other development projects, whereby the Ministry remained with 1,037 hectares.
Mr Kunenge went on to say that, the government has seen the need of releasing more land from the remaining 1,037 hectares which are legally owned by the Ministry. “The government has an intention of releasing more land to you, but you must leave this area in a period of one month to allow legal procedures to start so as to enable you own this area legally “, he insisted.
Consistency, quality, and care on an international level.
