Coach Lema: JKT Queens outclassed us tactically

DAR ES SALAAM: YANGA Princess Head Coach Edna Lema has admitted that her side was not outplayed in terms of effort or performance but were tactically outmaneuvred in their 2-0 loss to JKT Queens on Wednesday at the KMC Complex Stadium.
The defeat sees JKT Queens leap to the top of the Tanzania Women’s Premier League (TWPL) standings, tied with Simba Queens at 41 points but ahead on goal difference.
JKT have scored 63 goals and conceded 13, while defending champions Simba have netted 52 and also conceded 13.
Yanga Princess remain in third place with 33 points. In her post-match remarks, Coach Lema emphasised that her players executed the game plan with determination, but key tactical shortcomings made the difference.
“We were not outplayed in terms of performance, but JKT Queens used a few smart tactics that made the difference,” Lema said.
“Our midfield controlled the game well, but we were caught off guard by their quick transitions and early pressing. It’s not the result we wanted, but we’ll study our mistakes and bounce back.

Lema also praised her players’ discipline and structure but pointed out lapses in concentration that led to conceding early goals.
“My team showed resilience and stuck to the strategy, but lacked sharpness in decisive moments. Small mistakes cost us,” she added.
The result marks JKT Queens’ second straight league win over Yanga this season, having also triumphed 2-0 in the first-round fixture.
Overall, JKT have now beaten Yanga three times across competitions this season, including the Community Shield and league matches, with Yanga’s only win coming in the Samia Cup.
Simba Queens’ recent 2-2 draw against Mashujaa Queens opened the door for JKT to catch up and overtake them based on goal difference.
With only two rounds remaining, the title race is set for a dramatic finish. Simba will face Bunda Queens and Alliance Girls, while JKT take on Fountain Gate Princess and Gets Program.
Meanwhile, the relegation battle has been settled early, with Gets Program (10 points) and Mlandizi Queens (one point) already confirmed for the drop, unable to survive even if they win their remaining fixtures.
