Mbeya City set sights on strong Premier League come-back

MBEYA: AFTER clinching second place in this season’s Championship standings, Mbeya City FC have officially secured promotion to the Tanzania Premier League and the club are returning with bold ambitions and a clear message that they are back not just to participate, but to compete.

Speaking on the club’s vision moving forward, Mbeya City Secretary General, Ally Mnundu, stressed that the promotion marks the beginning of a new era for the teamone defined by competitiveness, resilience and pride.

“We’re not just coming back to fill the fixture list. We’re returning to bring real competition to the Premier League and we want everyone to feel our presence,” Mnundu declared.

Mnundu credited the club’s return to topflight football to a season marked by focus, consistency and determination.

“We approached every match in the Championship with discipline and commitment. It wasn’t just about winning it was about rebuilding a strong foundation for long-term success,” he explained.

“Our technical bench worked tirelessly to instill a winning mentality, and that consistency has paid off.” Looking ahead to their Premier League campaign, Mnundu emphasised that the goal is to make a genuine impact, not merely survive.

“We believe in our system, in our players, and in the strength we’ve built. We’ve learned crucial lessons about resilience, teamwork, and strategy that will serve us well at the next level. Our fans have stood by us, and now we want to reward that loyalty with passionate performances that reflect the heart of this club.”

Echoing Mnundu’s sentiments, Head Coach Mwigane Yeya expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the Premier League challenge.

He revealed that preparations are nearly complete, with plans underway to bolster the squad with key reinforcements.

“Our ambition is clear: To restore Mbeya City’s place among Tanzania’s elite,” said Yeya.

“We’re focused on building a competitive, well-balanced team that can challenge the best.” He also reflected on the club’s historic 2011/2012 campaign, a milestone season that still resonates with supporters. “That season was a proud chapter in our history.

Now, our mission is to recreate that success by staying focused, recruiting smart and upholding high standards both on and off the pitch.

This isn’t just a return; it’s a new beginning. One filled with purpose, belief, and the desire to make our supporters proud,” he said.

With their return to the Premier League confirmed, Mbeya City enters the 2025/26 season with renewed energy and a revitalised sense of identity.

Armed with valuable experience, a strategic vision, and a passionate fan base, the club is poised to write an exciting new chapter in its history.
