Chongolo calls on parents to prioritise education

ARUSHA: THE government has urged parents in Arusha Region to ensure their children attend school as it continues investing in education infrastructure, including the construction of secondary schools in every ward and the provision of free education.

The appeal was made recently by the Minister for Agriculture and government patron for Arusha Region, Mr Daniel Chongolo, after inspecting and inaugurating a newly built two-unit teachers’ house at Kalimaji Secondary School in Moshono Ward, Arusha City.

Mr Chongolo encouraged parents to support their children’s education, describing it as the greatest inheritance they could leave them.

He also commended the school’s leadership, ward authorities, Arusha City Council and Arusha District Commissioner Joseph Mkude for effectively supervising development projects.

The minister further directed Arusha Regional Administrative Secretary Dr Toba Nguvila to follow up on a request by Moshono Ward Councillor Seriel Mbise to upgrade Kalimaji Secondary School to offer Advanced Level education (Forms Five and Six).

Earlier, the school’s Head Teacher, Ms Neema Mshana, said the newly commissioned teachers’ house accommodates two families. Each unit has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a store and a kitchen.

The house was built at a cost of 30m/- using Arusha City Council’s own-source revenue. Councillor Mbise expressed gratitude to the government for implementing various development projects in Moshono Ward and pledged to work closely with the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi and residents to safeguard, maintain and promote the projects.

During his visit, Mr Chongolo also commended the Arusha District leadership for implementing strategies to improve the city’s road infrastructure, noting that more than 75 per cent of the government’s development budget for the 2026/27 financial year had been allocated to road projects.

He also underscored the need to maintain peace and security to protect residents and their property, while urging citizens to engage in productive economic activities as the region prepares to host the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027).
