China to empower 100 Dar women with business, high-tech, marketing skills

DAR ES SALAAM: THE  organizers of Malkia wa Nguvu Awards have unveiled a plan to send 100 women to China in 2025 for capacity-building training on technology, industrial growth, and marketing.

Speaking during the climax of the Malkia wa Nguvu 2025 Awards in Dar es Salaam, Chairperson of the organizing committee, Ms. Liliane Masuka, said the initiative aims to equip women with practical knowledge and networks to scale up their businesses and innovations.

“This year, we are excited to launch several strategic projects, including (Mai Shop Malkia Digital Hub), an online platform that will support women with access to knowledge, markets, and digital networks,” she said.

She also unveiled the Kipepeo Seed Fund, a new initiative designed to support innovative girls and women with seed capital for their businesses.

Gracing the event as the Guest of Honour, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, commended the organisers for consistently empowering women across sectors for nine consecutive years.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate the management of Clouds Media Group for initiating and sustaining the Malkia wa Nguvu platform. It has played a significant role in women’s development and the nation at large,” he said.

Adding, he said Tanzania has made notable progress in addressing challenges facing women, including improved access to education, economic empowerment, business and investment opportunities, and affordable financial services.

“The government has partnered with international agencies such as UN Women, UNESCO, and UNICEF to enhance maternal and child healthcare, access to clean water, and modern cooking energy—all of which contribute to improving women’s lives,” he said.

The 2025 Malkia wa Nguvu awards honoured 10 outstanding women in various fields. Dr. Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the National Assembly and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, received the Honorary Award. Other winners included Dr. Marina Njelekela for Health and Community Welfare, Happiness Nyiti for Agribusiness, and Engineer Zena Ahmed Said for Public Service.

The awards will expand to five zones across the country, including the Lake Zone, the Northern Zone, the Central Zone, and the Southern Highlands.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila, said recognising women’s contributions is essential in challenging outdated societal views that consider women as incapable.

“Such recognition will inspire society to rethink and appreciate the capabilities and potential of women,” he said.

The Malkia wa Nguvu initiative was launched nine years ago by Clouds Media Group to celebrate and uplift women making significant contributions to society. Over the years, it has evolved into a national platform for mentorship, business growth and advocacy for gender equality.
