Chess team for Uzbekistan Olympiad unveiled

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Chess Association (TACA) has announced ten players to represent the country at the upcoming Chess Olympiad, following national trials that concluded recently. The international tournament, set to take place in September in Uzbekistan, will bring together top players from around the world.
Tanzania’s squad comprises five men and five women, chosen after a competitive three-day championship organised by the Tanzania Chess Association (TACA).
In the men’s category, Parsa Nasser, Albert Njau, Sarota Patrick, Henry Marwa and Rashid Sharif secured places on the team. In the women’s category, Anahi Shah, who emerged as national champion, will be joined by Neema Adam, Bertha Mkude, Lissa Joseph and Mariam Gwae.

According to TACA Information Officer Mussa Mangula, the selection process was merit-based and reflected the growing depth of chess talent in the country.
He said the high standard of play during the trials demonstrated Tanzania’s improving competitiveness in the sport. Preparations for the Olympiad are expected to begin immediately, with training programmes, coaching and exposure to international competition planned in the coming months.
Mangula noted that adequate funding and technical support would be essential to ensure the team is ready for the demands of the global stage. He also thanked sponsors and partners who supported the national championship and called for further backing to strengthen the team’s
