Chato  to improve water availability by 80pc

THE Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in Chato    District has set plans to increase access to clean water in rural areas to 80 per cent by December 2023.

Manager of Ruwasa in Chato District Eng Avitus Exavery, noted this recently while speaking at the launch of a new water project in the villages of Mnekezi-Songambele.

He said the success is expected to be achieved after the completion of the five ongoing water projects implemented in different areas where about 121,490 beneficiaries are expected to benefit.

He said up to November 2022, water access in Chato rural ares has been upgraded to 65 per cent after the implementation of water projects in 11 villages including drilling of 31 deep wells in various villages.

Eng Exavery noted that the Mnekezi-Songambele water project has been implemented at a total cost 374.4m/- with the capacity to produce 50,000 litres to serve a total of 8,795 residents.

Chato Member of Parliament, Dr Medard Kalemani, said sixth-phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan is working hard to end water woes by ensuring that water is available in every place.

Dr Kalemani urged Ruwasa to strengthen the management of the water projects being implemented for them to be completed on time so that the citizens are assured of connecting water services to their residents.

Chato District Commissioner, Ms Martha Mkumpasi, urged the Community Based Water Services Organisations (CBWSOs) to effectively control the water revenues.
