DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzanian celebrities and arts stakeholders are paying tribute to actress Grace Mapunda, known as ‘Tessa,’ who passed away early Saturday.
Mr Hashim Kambi, who had worked with Grace, described her as one of the most lovable people, “who knew her job, loved it, and was full of talent and capability.”
“She loved herself… she could act in any scene given to her, be it as a widow, wife, or mother,” he noted.
Actress Yvonne Cherrie, popularly known as Monalisa, expressed her sorrow on Instagram, noting that the film industry has suffered a great loss.
“Rest in peace, our dear mother GRACE MAPUNDA. We loved you so much, but our God loved you even more.

Other actors who took to social media to share their grief include former Miss Tanzania and actress Wema Sepetu, as well as Rammy Gallis and Johari Chagula.
Grace passed away early Saturday at Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where she was receiving treatment.

Huba director Aziz Ahmed confirmed her passing, stating that Grace was admitted to the hospital on October 31, 2024, due to breathing complications.
The director added that burial arrangements are underway in Sinza, Dar es Salaam, where the actress resided, and promised to provide further details later.
