“The Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports expresses its condolences to the family, friends, and members of the film industry for the loss of veteran actress Ms Grace Mapunda ‘Tessa,’ who passed away on November 1, 2024. May Almighty God grant her eternal peace,” the Ministry stated on its official Instagram account.
Grace passed away early Saturday at Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where she was receiving treatment.
Huba director Aziz Ahmed said Grace was admitted to the hospital on October 31, 2024, due to breathing complications.
He further noted that the actress had been ill for an extended period but had recently recovered enough to resume her regular activities.
However, she was taken back to the hospital two days ago when her condition worsened, leading to her passing.
The director added that burial arrangements are underway in Sinza, Dar es Salaam, where the actress resided, and promised to provide further details later.
Grace was a former member of the Kaole Group and participated in several series, including Fukuto, Maisha, and Radi.
She also acted in the films Fake Smile, Wrong Richness, and Laana na Nasaha.
