CECAFA Women: JKT Queens sail to final
JKT Queens defeated Buja Queens 3-1 to match into the CAF Women’s CECAFA regional qualifiers final at FTC Njeru Stadium in Uganda on Sunday.
The Tanzania envoys came from a goal behind to net three goals in the second half courtesy of Donisia Minja, Stumai Abdalah and Winfrida Gerald while the only goal for the Burundian side was scored by Teopistar Situma.
With the outcome, JKT Queens are just one match away from fulfilling their mission of representing the country in the CAF Women’s Champions League a feat that is within their reach.
The country Women’s Premier League title holders have had a remarkable feat in the ongoing qualifiers no wonder they topped their group B with 9 points after winning all their three matches.
However, it was a bumpy ride for Zanzibar envoys New Generations who made exit win-less and point-less in all their three engagements.
Last year, the CECAFA zone was represented by Simba Queens who finished in fourth place in the Champions League finals held in Morocco.
They went down 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in an electric semifinal encounter and they also lost with the same margin to Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria in a third-place finish game.
Despite the setback, it was a good platform for Simba Queens to show the world what they are capable of executing and playing at such a level, it is the best-selling place for players based on the fact that many people across the world follow the competition.
