CCM’s Congress endorses changes of election regulations

MEMBERS of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM)’s National Congress have unanimously approved a change of regulation to allow them to elect 40 members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Before the endorsement, they were supposed to elect only thirty members, 15 from each side; Mainland and Isles.

Earlier, a total of 2,703 names have already been approved to contest 30 seats, but now they will vie for 40 posts.

Out of the approved names, 2,149 are from the Mainland while remaining 554 are from the Isles.

“All those nominated to run for the positions are considered as winners because the party believes that whoever elected in the past and today will help in building the party,” said CCM national chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the 10th CCM’s National Congress Meeting held in Dodoma.

Equally, the chairperson announced that the party’s congress has okayed an increase of number of National Executive Committee (NEC) members from seven to 10.

President Samia called on the members who have been nominated to run for the positions to understand the purpose of the party’s election which is against the individual’s strategy to break through in the future elections.
