CCM vows to prioritise people’s interests

CCM Secretary General,  Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi

TABORA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has vowed to prioritise the interests and needs of the people in serving Tanzanians.

The party’s Secretary-General Ambassador Dr Emmanuel John Nchimbi said CCM must continue to demonstrate to the public that it is a party that respects the people, ready to serve them and prioritises the broad interests, needs and aspirations of the citizens.

Dr Nchimbi made the remarks on Friday during the Nzega constituency’ general meeting, held at the district conference hall in Nzega Urban.

Speaking at the meeting Dr Nchimbi said that the foundation of CCM’s success lies in focusing on the needs of the people.

Dr Nchimbi spoke of the recent local government election at Mkoga Hamlet, Mkuranga District in the Coast Region where the CCM candidate failed to win the hearts and minds of the public during the election.

According to Dr Nchimba, the party should nominate another candidate after it made attempt to re-nominate the candidate who was rejected by hamlet residents in the civic poll on November 27.

“In the Coast Region’s Mkoga Hamlet, Mkuranga District, a CCM candidate was rejected by voters in the local government election. Yet, this morning, I have been informed that he has been renominated to contest for the post again. This is disrespectful to the people and violates our principles of respecting their choices,” Dr Nchimbi said.

He added: “I am directing that the primary be held again, and the candidate rejected by the people during the civic poll must not participate in the nomination at the party level,” said Ambassador Nchimbi, emphasising the importance of CCM in demonstrating to the public that its respects and serves the people.”

Ambassador Nchimbi further instructed the party and government leaders to ensure that the elected village, street and hamlet leaders in last month’s Local Government Election get special training to empower them to efficiently carry out their duties.

During the meeting, Nzega Urban Member of Parliament, Hussein Bashe, presented a report on the implementation of the election manifesto in the constituency.

Ambassador Nchimbi congratulated the MP, party leaders and local government officials in Nzega for their efforts in maintaining solidarity, unity and strengthening public trust in CCM.

Earlier, the Secretary General inaugurated the CCM conference hall in Nzega, which has the capacity to accommodate approximately 1,900 individuals.

He also handed over 229 motorcycles, provided by Mr Bashe to party leaders at the ward and grassroot levels, as well as to village and streets chairpersons in the Nzega Urban constituency.
