DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chairperson of the CCM Women’s Wing in Njombe Region, Dr Scholastica Kevela, has urged the government to strengthen financial institutions in rural areas to empower women and drive economic growth.

Dr Kevela, who recently earned a PhD in Finance from the Open University of Tanzania, emphasised the importance of increasing capital in these institutions to enable larger loans that can significantly impact rural communities.

“My research focused on how women in Njombe Region can benefit economically, politically and socially through financial institutions,” she explained.

“By empowering women with access to finance, we can help them own homes, educate their children and contribute to community development.”

Dr Kevela, who is also the Director of Yono Auction Mart and Company, encouraged Tanzanians, especially women and young people, to pursue education. She commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for creating a conducive environment for learning.

“We look up to Dr Samia as a role model. I urge young people and my fellow women to pursue education. The Open University is very accommodating, allowing learners to study while managing other responsibilities,” she said.

The graduation ceremony, graced by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, saw 4,307 graduates, including 55 PhD recipients.

The Prime Minister underscored the pivotal role of graduates in driving Tanzania’s development.

Dr Kevela vowed to use her knowledge and expertise to champion rural economic empowerment and uplift marginalised communities.
