CCM urges patience over October 29 probe

DAR ES SALAAM: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has urged political parties to avoid turning the October 29 events into a political campaign tool, calling for patience as a commission appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan investigates what happened.

CCM Secretary for Ideology, Propaganda and Training, Kenani Kihongosi, said the commission has been tasked with establishing the circumstances surrounding the events, including determining who was responsible, after which appropriate action could be taken where wrongdoing is established.

Speaking during an interview with Clouds FM’s Power Breakfast programme on Wednesday, Mr Kihongosi said he could not comment in detail on the commission’s work because he was not a member of the body.

He said CCM respected the President’s decision to establish the commission and would wait for its findings and recommendations before drawing conclusions.

“My advice is simple, first, we must be patient. Secondly, I appeal to all political parties not to use the October 29 agenda as a means of building themselves politically, especially by exploiting people’s suffering,” he said.

Mr Kihongosi urged political parties and the public to allow the commission to complete its work and establish what happened, who was responsible and what action should follow.

He said the events should ultimately provide lessons for the country and help prevent similar incidents in the future, rather than become a subject of political exploitation.
