CCM indefinitely postpones national parents week celebrations
DODOMA: THE Tanzania Parents Wing of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has indefinitely postponed its National Parents Week celebrations, which were scheduled to begin on Thursday in Mwanza, following the government’s decision to suspend public rallies by political parties.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend in Dodoma, the wing’s National Chairman, Fadhili Maganya, said the postponement follows a government statement presented in the National Assembly by the Minister for Home Affairs directing the suspension of all public political meetings.
He said the celebrations were expected to climax on Saturday with public rallies, an official launch and other activities under the theme “Good Parenting and Patriotism are the Foundation of the Nation.”
“We would like to inform our members, leaders and all wananchi, particularly residents of Mwanza City, that the celebrations have been postponed until further notice. A new date will be announced in due course,” Mr Maganya said.
He said preparations for the event had already been completed at branch, ward, district and regional levels, with only the national-level celebrations in Mwanza remaining.
Mr Maganya urged party leaders, members and members of the public who had planned to attend the event to remain patient as the organisation awaits further guidance.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused by the postponement, noting that some participants had already begun travelling to Mwanza ahead of the official launch.
“We sincerely apologise to all organising committees and participants affected by this decision. We understand that some delegates had already started travelling to Mwanza to attend the opening events,” he said.
