DODOMA: THE ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), celebrates its 48th anniversary today, bragging notable strides in bringing development to the people and country.
CCM’s Vice-Chairman (Mainland) Mr Stephen Wasira, underscored the party’s commitment to improving the lives of Tanzanians through a wide range of development projects.
He said that these initiatives span various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and industrialisation, all aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people and fostering economic growth.
Speaking at the Women’s Wing, UWT symposium in Dodoma yesterday, in the run up to today’s anniversary, Mr Wasira said that the main agenda of CCM is to improve the welfare of all citizens.
Founded on February 5, 1977, the party has been celebrating its anniversary with a series of nationwide events leading up to today’s main celebration.
“The party’s efforts have been focused on improving the quality of life for citizens, particularly through infrastructure development such as roads, electricity and water services,” Mr Wasira said.
He also pointed to the growth of the agricultural sector, which is crucial for the majority of Tanzanians, as well as advancements in healthcare and education.
Similarly, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, CCM has overseen the successful implementation of major projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), both of which are expected to have a significant impact on the country’s economy.

He noted the provision of clean water across various parts of the country and the construction of over 100 hospitals, along with new medical equipment.
Additionally, over 3,000 primary schools, 925 secondary schools, 26,905 new primary school classrooms and 34,464 new secondary school classrooms have been built nationwide.
Mr Wasira expressed confidence that the party’s ongoing efforts in development would lead to sustainable progress and poverty reduction in the coming years.
Speaking about how CCM has empowered women, Mr Wasira recalled the 1974 TANU resolution that called for universal education for all women through Universal Primary Education (UPE), saying that the party has made significant strides in empowering women.
He also said that even at universities, women must be given preferential treatment to ensure gender equality, adding that today, girls outperform boys in exams. CCM, he said, is a party of liberation, inheriting the legacy of liberation from TANU and Afro Shiraz.
On the other hand, CCM boasts a membership of 12.5 million, with the Women’s Wing having 6.132 million members, reflecting the wide appreciation for the peace and stability provided by the party.
On her part, the UWT Chairperson, Ms Mary Chitanda praised the party for effectively implementing its 2020-2025 election manifesto.
She noted that UWT has overseen the completion of 1,265 community sector projects and nine strategic projects across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Ms Chitanda acknowledged that both the Union and Zanzibar governments have made significant progress in bringing development to the people, surpassing the goals outlined in the manifesto.
She further praised the party’s progress in strengthening infrastructure, party projects and various associations at different levels, as well as in utilising technology and technological advancements, “thanks to the strong leadership of the party’s Chairperson Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.”
She also expressed UWT’s support for the decisions made during the CCM Extraordinary General Meeting held on January 18-19 this year, where Dr Samia was endorsement as the party’s presidential candidate for the Union government, Dr Hussein Mwinyi endorsed as the presidential candidate for Zanzibar.
Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi was picked as the running mate for the Union presidential position.
“UWT congratulates our leaders for being trusted and appointed to carry the CCM flag in the 2025 general elections and we wish them the best of luck and good health,” she said.
In a presentation, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi said that UWT has made a significant contribution in preparing female leaders who have played a key role in driving the country’s development.
Prof Kabudi further said that President Samia, as part of UWT, has accomplished major milestones in strengthening national unity, promoting peace, solidarity, democracy, human rights, diplomacy and development across all sectors, while safeguarding the broader interests of the nation
