CCM candidates pledge peaceful, issue-based campaigns

ZANZIBAR: THE nomination process for parliamentary and council seats continued across Unguja and Pemba on Wednesday,September 3, 2025, with ruling party CCM candidates turning out in large numbers to collect their forms — promising peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the general election.
In Kijini constituency, Ms Badria Attai Masoud, a journalist by profession, collected her nomination forms at the ZEC office in North Unguja. She thanked the party for entrusting her with its flag and vowed to work closely with voters to tackle local challenges.
In Tunguu, candidate Mr Simai Mohamed Said, defending the seat, arrived at the ZEC office in Koani on a bicycle, accompanied by a large crowd of supporters.
After receiving his forms, he told journalists that his campaign would focus on policies and development programs rather than insults or hate speech. He emphasized the need for this year’s election to be free, fair, and remembered for its peace and unity.
Long-serving Makunduchi representative Dr Haroun Ali Suleiman, who first entered parliament in 2000, also collected his nomination forms alongside fellow CCM aspirant Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub. Suleiman praised his constituents for their trust and pledged to continue working tirelessly to bring greater development to the area.

Other candidates included Mr Said Azan Hassan (Uzini), Mr Mihayo Juma Suleiman (Mwera), as well as ward-level aspirants such as Mr Hamduni Hemed Rashid (Kianga) and Mr Salum Juma Ramadhan (Mtoni Kidatu).
All underlined their commitment to clean campaigns, urging political supporters to shun provocation, divisive politics, and violence.
Election supervisors in Central and West “A” districts reminded candidates to follow all legal procedures when filling out and returning their forms to allow the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) enough time to review them.
Overall, CCM’s candidates said unity, discipline, and issue-based campaigns would be their guiding principles as they seek the support of voters in October’s election.
