Call for Tanzania and Malawi to turn their growing trade into joint manufacturing ventures, value addition.

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’S High Commissioner to Malawi, Agnes Kayola, has called on the governments and private sectors of Tanzania and Malawi to turn growing trade opportunities into investments in joint manufacturing ventures and value addition.
Kayola made the call while closing the Third Tanzania–Malawi Business and Investment Forum, held at the Sabasaba grounds in Dar es Salaam. She commended the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE), the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), and other stakeholders for organising the forum.
She said trade between the two countries has continued to grow, with Tanzania’s exports to Malawi rising from 64.05m US dollars in 2021 to 89.47m US dollars in 2025, while the trade balance reached 74.30m US dollars.
Kayola said the Tanzanian government is continuing to improve port infrastructure and transport corridors, including the Kasumulu–Songwe border crossing, to facilitate trade between the two countries.
She also urged stakeholders to place greater emphasis on developing cross-border value chains and increasing investment in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, energy, tourism, information and communications technology (ICT), and logistics.
Today, September 9, 2026, delegates are scheduled to visit the Kwala Logistics Centre and the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to explore opportunities for joint investment.
