Call for special budget to support children with albinism

MWANZA: THE Chairman of Mwanza Region Tanzania Albinism Society, Masumbuko Marco, has called on the government to allocate a special budget for the purchase and distribution of protective equipment for children with albinism.

Mr Marco made the appeal yesterday in Mwanza during a meeting that focused on strengthening budget allocations for inclusive education and health services ahead of the 2026/27 financial year.

He also urged the government to recruit and train more skin specialists and health workers to improve access to specialised care. In addition, he called for increased training for teachers on inclusive education and the specific needs of children with albinism.

“Adequate investment in education and health for people with albinism is essential to ensure a better, more equitable life and appropriate development opportunities,” he said.

He emphasised that increased budgetary investment in the education and health sectors would help guarantee equal rights and opportunities for children with albinism.

Meanwhile, a project coordinator at ActionAid Tanzania, Yusuph Bwango, said the organisation is implementing a project dubbed Bright Tomorrow for Children with Albinism. He said the project aims to improve access to inclusive education, healthcare, as well as protection and security services for children and people with albinism in Kwimba and Misungwi districts.
