Two sentenced to death for couple’s killing

BUKOBA: TWO residents of Murugarama village in Ngara District have been sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of murdering a couple.

The High Court of Tanzania found Julius Ngeze and Selemani Rwandindi guilty of killing Amos Mfumu and his wife, Solina Amos. Court records show that on the night of November 1, 2018, a group of assailants armed with machetes broke into the couple’s home and fatally attacked them.

A medical report presented in court indicated that the victims died from excessive bleeding caused by multiple deep cuts to the head and neck.

Testifying as the third prosecution witness, Miburo Benedicto told the court that he had visited his sister, Solina, on the material night and was sleeping in the sitting room when the attackers struck.

He said he clearly identified the two accused due to sufficient lighting from three solar lamps inside the house. Delivering the judgment, High Court judge Lilian Itemba said the prosecution had proved Criminal Case No 14098/2024 beyond reasonable doubt, noting that the accused acted with common malice aforethought.

“The prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The two convicts had common malice aforethought and unlawfully caused the deaths of the deceased,” she ruled.
