Dar RC hails BRT Phase II as milestone in advancing people-centred development
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has described the inauguration of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase II project as a major milestone in advancing people-centred development aimed at improving the lives of residents.
Speaking during the launch of the project on August 7, 2026, Chalamila said Dar es Salaam had faced infrastructure challenges for many years, noting that the implementation of BRT Phase II demonstrates the government’s commitment to delivering development that benefits the people and is driven by the needs of the people.
He said the project is a clear example of development that prioritises citizens’ welfare by improving public transport services while stimulating the city’s economic growth.
During the event, Chalamila commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. He also expressed gratitude to the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Sidi Ould Tah, for the bank’s support in financing development projects in Tanzania.

The Regional Commissioner further praised President Samia for allocating funds to improve road infrastructure across Dar es Salaam, saying the investment has significantly reduced transport challenges, particularly during the rainy season.
He cited the Ubungo–Kimara Road and Jangwani Road among the key roads that have been upgraded, noting that they had previously caused major disruptions to road users due to flooding and deteriorating infrastructure.
