BFT host first-ever international boxing training

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) is hosting an International Boxing Association (IBA) 1 Star Referees and Judges course, which began yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

The course, taking place at the Dar es Salaam Police Academy (DPA), features both theoretical and practical components.

It is overseen by the IBA with instruction provided by Sadie Martina Duffy from the Republic of Ireland, Chairperson of the IBA Referees and Judges Committee and Godavarisingh Rajcoomar from Mauritius, Chairperson of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Referees and Judges Committee.

BFT President Lukelo Willilo emphasised that the course aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of referees and judges.

“This training not only seeks to impart new knowledge and skills to our officials but also lays a foundation for the sustainable development of boxing in Tanzania.

We believe boxing has the potential to elevate Tanzania’s international status and investing in the training of our experts is crucial,” Willilo stated.

He further noted, “By partnering with the IBA, we are assured that these esteemed international instructors will provide our referees and judges with skills and insights that will open new global opportunities for them.”

Willilo expressed optimism about the course’s impact, saying, “This is a significant opportunity for our country. We anticipate that the participants will gain the expertise needed to represent Tanzania effectively in international competitions, ensuring professional and accurate officiating.”

The course which commenced yesterday and will end on August 10, includes 25 Tanzanian referees and judges, alongside 10 participants from Kenya, Uganda, Namibia and Cape Verde.
