Barrick Gold support to education hailed
BARRICK North Mara Gold Mine has been commended for supporting the government in improving and creating conducive learning environment in the country.
The remarks were made by Nyamwaga Councillor, Mwita Magige at the Julius Kambarage Nyerere Secondary School graduation located in Tarime District Mara Region held at the weekend.
“Through the Barrick North Mara Gold Mine support, students in the area and others from various parts of the country have opportunity to get better education at Julius Kambarage Nyerere Secondary school,” said Mr Magige.
Barrick North Mara, had through its Corporate Social Investment built Julius Kambarage Nyerere Secondary school that enrols students from form one up to form six.
All these, recounted the Councillor has been made possible through the Twiga Minerals, the joint venture between the Tanzanian government and Barrick Gold Corporation.
To maintain the partnership, the Gold Mining firm recently set aside 40 million US dollars for supporting the government plan to construct roads.
Also, Barrick Gold Corporation disbursed 30 million US dollars to support the government in the improvement of higher learning education in the country.
The Julius Kambarage Nyerere Secondary School students hailed Barrick North Mara Gold Mine for building the school that gave the opportunity to acquire secondary school education in their area.
“Barrick North Mara Gold Mine has been our great partner, not only in building the school but also in ensuring the school’s infrastructure remained intact,” they said in the speech.
Since when it started in 2014, they said the school has been registering good results as well as imparting necessary life skills to students.
