Austrian chefs support Tanzania’s growth

VIENNA, Austria: The Austria’s Chefs Association has pledged to collaborate with Tanzania’s College of African Wildlife Management (MWEKA) in developing the hospitality industry in the country.

President of the Austria’s Chefs Association, Chef Harald Fargel, made the pledge in a discussion with Gerald Mbwafu, a Senior Officer at the embassy of Tanzania in Vienna, Austria on Tuesday.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperations, the major aim of the partnership is to enhance the hospitality sector as well as boosting the growth of the tourism industry in Tanzania.

Emphasising on the importance of the hospitality industry in Tanzania, Mr Mbwafu explained that skilled chefs and service personnel are a vital pillar in growing the tourism sector, as they directly influence visitor satisfaction and turn tourists into ambassadors who encourage others to visit.

Moreover, during the discussions, both sides agreed to establish capacity-building programmes, exchange teachers and students, organize short-term specialized training for culinary students and instructors, and collaborate in setting up a training kitchen, classroom, and hospitality curriculum at the MWEKA College.

The discussions were also attended virtually by the Deputy Rector for Academic Research and Consultancy at the College of African Wildlife Management (MWEKA), Prof Alex Kisingo and some members of the college management.

Tourism is one of the main contributors to Austria’s national economy where statistics show that the hospitality sector plays a significant role in the growth of the tourism industry in Austria.
