Assets evaluation experts asked to prioritise safety
MARA: EXPERTS conducting the valuation of assets belonging to residents earmarked for relocation to pave the way for construction of a new Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at the North Mara Gold Mine have been urged to strictly observe safety protocols throughout the exercise.
Barrick North Mara senior officer in charge of safety and health, Mr Francisco Ntemi, made the plea while addressing valuers and other professionals participating in the valuation exercise at Matongo Village in Tarime District. Mr Ntemi stressed the importance of identifying hazards, assessing potential risks and implementing appropriate control measures before starting or continuing work at any site.
He said safety compliance should be integrated into every stage of the experts’ operations, cautioning them against complacency and encouraging them to remain alert to conditions in their surroundings.

He also instructed the experts to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever required and promptly report any condition, behaviour or activity that could endanger their safety or that of others at the workplace.
“Whenever you are at the work site, ensure you identify existing hazards, assess potential risks and take appropriate measures to control those risks before proceeding with work. Safety must be part of every step you take,” Mr Ntemi said.
He further urged the professionals to maintain a strong safety culture throughout the valuation exercise, noting that adherence to occupational health and safety requirements was essential to protecting everyone involved.
Speaking during the exercise, North Mara Mine Acting Relations Manager, Nasieku Kisambu also urged the experts to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety while conducting valuation activities in the affected project areas.
Meanwhile, Senior Valuer, Baraka Mollel from the Office of the Chief Government Valuer called on the experts to immediately report any conditions or actions that could compromise safety during the exercise. Mr Mollel also emphasised the need for all professionals involved to comply with the laws, procedures and guidelines governing their responsibilities. The valuation exercise is being conducted in Matongo and Nyangoto villages in Tarime District.
