Ambassador Filip jets in for the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha

ARUSHA: THE Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Ambassador Anda Filip, arrived in Tanzania today, September 30, 2026, at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) ahead of the 153rd IPU Assembly scheduled to take place in Arusha from October 5 to 9, 2026.

Ambassador Filip was received at the airport by Tanzania’s Ambassador responsible for the IPU Geneva Desk, Hoyce Temu, together with Daniel Eliufoo, Chairperson of the National Technical Preparatory Committee.

Filip, a Romanian national, was elected IPU Secretary General in April 2026 in Istanbul and assumed office on July 1, 2026. She is the first woman to lead the IPU Secretariat in the institution’s 137-year history.

The 153rd IPU Assembly will be held under the theme, “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all.”

More than 2,000 participants from the IPU’s 183 member parliaments are expected to attend the assembly. Participants will include Speakers of Parliament, Members of Parliament, parliamentary secretaries and other officials.

The assembly is expected to provide a platform for parliamentarians and parliamentary officials from around the world to deliberate on issues related to good governance, inclusion, public trust and opportunities for communities.
