RC Makalla, Ambassador Temu discuss 153rd IPU assembly preparations

ARUSHA: Arusha Regional Commissioner,  Amos Gabriel Makalla, has held talks with Tanzania’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, Ambassador Dr. Hoyce Anderson Temu, on preparations for the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The assembly is scheduled to take place at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) from October 5 to 9, 2026, under the theme, “Strengthening Good Governance and Empowering Communities through Inclusion, Trust and Opportunity for All.”

The talks were held at the Regional Commissioner’s office in Arusha, where President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to serve as the chief guest at the assembly.

The event will be historic for Tanzania, as it will be the first time the country hosts the major IPU assembly, bringing together Speakers of Parliament and parliamentarians from 183 IPU member countries.

Preparations for the assembly are ongoing, with Tanzania expected to welcome parliamentary leaders from various countries around the world to participate in discussions on good governance, inclusion and community empowerment.
